Intern Planner, Bluerock Planning
Location: Calgary, Alberta (hybrid; some travel to client communities)
Term: October 2026 to December 2026
Compensation: $28.00/hr
About Bluerock
Bluerock Planning is a Calgary-based consultancy that works with municipalities and private clients across Alberta and British Columbia. Our work includes community and official plans, zoning and land use bylaws, development approvals, and community engagement.
The Role
The Intern Planner supports Bluerock’s active projects and learns how planning work moves from research to adopted policy.
Responsibilities include:
– Researching background material, policy, and best practices for plans and bylaws
– Reviewing municipal bylaws, statutory plans, and development applications
– Preparing maps, figures, and simple spatial analysis in GIS
– Helping plan and run engagement events, and summarizing what participants said
– Drafting sections of reports, memos, and proposals
– Keeping project files, document indexes, and meeting notes organized
Qualifications
– Currently enrolled in a planning, geography, environmental design, or related program
– Strong writing and research skills
– Working knowledge of GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS) and Microsoft Office
– Interest in rural and small-town planning in Western Canada
– Organized, curious, and comfortable working in a small team
– Valid driver’s licence (an asset)
